Heat Traced Grease Waste and Freeze Protected Systems
Prevent grease build-up in commercial kitchens drain systems by controlling temperatures of pipes to allow for continual movement of grease and debris using Heat Trace Cable and applicable insulation to maintain the proper elements for system efficiency and longevity.
Ensuring flow where it is subject to freeze-ups in piping systems is essential, especially in colder climates, especially in commercial kitchens. Our heat-traced, freeze-protected insulation systems are designed to maintain the flow of liquids and gases, preventing costly disruptions.
The Role of Pipe Insulation for Cold and Hot Systems
- Energy Conservation: Insulation helps save energy and reduce operating costs.
- Condensation Control: Prevents moisture buildup, which can cause damage.
- Process Stability: Keeps processes running smoothly by maintaining temperatures.
- Safety: Reduces surface temperatures to protect workers.
- Emissions Reduction: Lowers emissions by enhancing system efficiency.
- Noise Reduction: Minimizes noise from pipes and equipment.
Pipe Insulation for Chilled-Water Systems (33°F to 60°F): Insulation is essential for chilled-water and cold-water systems to control condensation and conserve energy. Proper insulation prevents moisture from forming on cold surfaces, which can lead to:
- Reduced effectiveness and lifespan of the insulation.
- Corrosion of pipes and fittings.
- Mold growth and water damage.
Pipe Insulation for Hot Systems (61°F to 1,000°F): Insulation is primarily used for process control and energy conservation in hot systems. Proper insulation helps maintain temperature control and prevents heat loss, ensuring systems run efficiently.
OJ Specialty Contracting’s Pipe Insulation:
- Material: Fiberglass, Phenolic, Calcium Silicate, Polyurethane, Flexible Elastomeric Foam and Rubber.
- Sizes: Available for various pipe sizes, from ½ inches to 36 inches for iron pipes and ½ inches to 6 inches for copper tubes.
- Thickness: Insulation thickness ranges from ½ inch to 5 inches. For thicker requirements, multiple layers can be used. Local, State, and Federal requirements will alternate thicknesses for all pipe and duct systems.
Vapor Retarder Systems:
- Factory-Applied Jacket: Upon request or requirement, PVC (ask about color options), Aluminum, Steel, Foil Scrim Kraft and other jackets can be applied to prevent corrosion from the elements, as well as adding thermal properties while maintaining building aesthetics.
- Installation Requirements: Proper installation is crucial to ensure vapor barriers are effective, preventing condensation within the insulation.
Insulation Thickness Determination:
- Standards: Follow ASHRAE and IECC standards for minimum insulation thickness.
- Software Tools: Use tools like NAIMA 3E Plus® to determine the correct insulation thickness for preventing condensation and optimizing energy conservation.
